SheBuzzin caught up with the talented superstar to discuss his debut album Melody, the state of dancehall, and much more.

Q: What track from this album are you most excited to perform?

“Dance My Stress Away!”

Q: What makes this album different from previous releases?

“It’s more geared towards the commercial side. It’s not really hardcore. I put a lot of work into this album. Some of these songs are older because I’ve been holding on to them for the right time.”

Q: What song off of this project would you recommend someone to hear first?

“All of dem!”

Q: In what creative lane have you found the most fun?

“I created a Youtube Show “Demarco on the Beat” where I show the people how I create my music. That was really fun for me.”

Q: How do you feel about the current state of dancehall?"

“I hear a lot of people saying that Dancehall is going down but I feel like Dancehall is still doing its thing. Dancehall wasn’t known to be a music [genre] that sells a lot. It’s a vibe. People go on Youtube to listen to the music and watch the dances. We need to be more business-minded. That’s the thing that’s messing up the sales. We don’t have the right people to represent us. 90% of [dancehall artists] are coming from humble beginnings. A lot of us didn’t go to school. When it comes to the business, we’re not informed. It wasn’t until I came back to the US in 2017 and started doing my research that I learned about SoundExchange and other revenue streams.”

Q: What advice would you give to an upcoming artist?

“Learn the business, get the right representation and work hard.”

Q: What is the next lead release that you will drop from the project?

“Do It Again” featuring Shaggy. I’m releasing a movie. This video will be 10 minutes long. Lots of acting in it. Directed and written by myself.”

Very excited to hear Demarco's upcoming plan and drive to flood the market with new music. Demarco is igniting the genre with fresh riddims and electrifying lyrics. Be sure to stream his new album Melody to catch a vibe.
